Yanaguana, a free, digital review of literature and art, is published by the Board of Directors of Voices de la Luna, a non-profit literature and arts organization in San Antonio, Texas. Yanaguana was conceived of in 2024 as a replacement for the print magazine Voices de La Luna: A Quarterly Literature and Arts Magazine. Unable to sustain that subscription-based print magazine, the Board waded into the digital age, proposing a free publication that would continue the kind and attentive aspects of the old Voices de la Luna while renewing our desire to engage the spectrum of diverse voices of San Antonio, South Texas, and the world.
We give thanks with each issue to the Indigenous peoples who first named the artesian springs, “Yanaguana,” where what is now denominated “San Antonio River” first meets the air and begins its thirst-slaking and sustaining journey to the ocean. We use Yanaguana, variously read as “spirit waters,” or “healing waters,” with reverence and humility, and hope with each issue to sound the music and balm we see in the name.

Voices de la Luna supports VersoFrontera, an independent literary festival held annually since 2019. At VersoFrontera writers and artists showcase their creative work in an inclusive and community-oriented environment. About thirty-two local, national, and international writers participate every year. Since 2022, the festival has been held at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.
